FAQ
Carfia Square Eyeglasses
Square eyeglasses are a full-rim frame with straight top and bottom lines and crisp, defined corners — roughly equal in width and height, so they read as structured and graphic rather than soft. (A rectangle frame is the same idea but noticeably wider than it is tall.) That structure makes square frames the classic counterweight to a Round face: our Frame & Face Shapes guide recommends square or rectangular glasses for round faces because they add angles and make the face appear slimmer and longer. They are also a safe pick for an Oval face, where rectangular, oval, square and round geometric frames all work, and for a Heart-shaped face — 'square eyeglasses with curved edges' are specifically recommended there to draw attention away from a broad forehead. Two face shapes to think twice about: a Square face, where angular and boxy frames sharpen a strong jawline instead of softening it, and a Triangle face (narrow forehead, wider jaw), where a frame whose top half is narrower than the forehead is not recommended. The guiding rule is contrast — pick frames that work against your natural contours rather than repeating them.
There are currently 44 square eyeglasses available, in eight frame widths: 138 mm, 139 mm, 139.5 mm, 140 mm, 141 mm, 142 mm, 143 mm and 145 mm. 142 mm is the core size (11 styles — Concord, Hemet, Kenosha, Milo, Shellton and Shelton), followed by 145 mm (10 styles — Architect and Arnect) and 143 mm (7 styles — Matthew). As a rule of thumb the narrowest options are 138 mm (AvonPark, Chicago) and 139 mm (AvonPark, Barrie), while 145 mm (Architect, Arnect) is the widest. Lens widths run from 46 mm to 57 mm, lens height from 36 mm to 50 mm, bridge width from 15 mm to 25 mm and temple length from 138 mm to 146 mm. To find your own size, take the pair that fits you best and measure straight across from one hinge screw to the other — that distance is your ideal frame width. Every measurement is listed in the Details tab on each product page, next to the Size Guide.
Both. Of the 44 square eyeglasses currently available, 22 are labelled Women's, 20 Men's and 2 Unisex. The Men's styles cluster in the larger sizes — Architect and Arnect (both 145 mm), plus Concord, Hemet, Milo and Shelton (142 mm) and Downey (139.5 mm). The Women's styles include Matthew (143 mm, and the widest lens in the collection at 57 mm), Barrie, AvonPark, Chicago, Senda and Clifford. The two Unisex styles are Kenosha-FL01 and Shellton-FC06. Because a square frame reads well on almost anyone, the honest advice is to choose by face width rather than by the label: if your measured frame width lands around 142–145 mm you will be comfortable in either range.
Yes — every style in this collection is prescription-ready. Choose your frame, then click "Select Lenses" → "Select A Lens Type" to add single-vision distance, single-vision reading, bifocal or progressive lenses (progressives from as low as $35.95). We need a valid prescription issued within the last 24 months; expired prescriptions are not accepted. Lens indexes go up to 1.74 for stronger prescriptions. If we make the lenses wrong, we remake or refund at our cost with a prepaid label. If the error is on your side (wrong prescription given, expired Rx or wrong measurement), you can request an exchange within 30 days of receipt — you pay return shipping and any price difference.
Every Carfia pair includes anti-scratch coating free. From the lens picker you can also add anti-reflective (AR) coating, water-repellent coating, UV-protective coating, blue-light filtering, photochromic / Transitions™ light-adjusting lenses, polarized lenses (+$50) and colour or mirrored tints. Two rules to know before you build your pair: (1) colour tints and mirrored tints cannot be combined with polarized or photochromic lenses; (2) gradient tint is only available on frames with a lens height above 36 mm. In this collection that means 34 of the 44 available styles qualify — the tallest is Matthew at 50 mm, then Barrie at 46 mm, AvonPark at 45–46 mm and Concord at 44 mm — while 10 cannot: the seven Arnect styles and the three Senda styles, all sitting at exactly 36.0 mm.
