FAQ
Carfia Oval Eyeglasses
Oval eyeglasses are frames with a softly rounded, egg-shaped lens opening that is widest through the middle and tapers gently at the top and bottom. Because the curve is soft rather than angular, oval frames balance strong features instead of sharpening them — which is why they top the list for two face shapes in our Frame & Face Shapes guide: Square faces (the soft curve breaks up a strong jawline and gives a slimmer, longer look) and Diamond faces (the swept-up oval silhouette plays up high cheekbones). If you have an Oval face, oval frames suit you too — just avoid oversized styles that cover more than half your face, as that throws off the natural symmetry. If you have a Triangle face (narrow forehead, wider jaw), oval frames are not the best match: their narrower top half can make the forehead look even narrower. Cat-eye or browline shapes work better there.
Carfia's Oval Eyeglasses collection currently has 20 styles across four frame widths: 136 mm, 139 mm, 142 mm and 144 mm. Lens widths run from 49 mm to 57 mm, lens height from 33 mm to 35.6 mm, bridge width from 16 mm to 20 mm, and temple length from 140 mm to 145 mm. As a rule of thumb: the 136 mm Aven and Bonterey styles suit narrower faces, the 139 mm Ovalen and 142 mm Avenker styles sit in the middle, and the 144 mm Padulla frames are our widest oval option. To check your own size, take the pair that fits you best and measure straight across from one hinge screw to the other — that distance is your ideal frame width. Every measurement is listed in the Details tab on each product page, next to the Size Guide.
Yes — every frame in this collection is prescription-ready. Pick your frame, then click "Select Lenses" → "Select A Lens Type" to add single-vision distance, single-vision reading, bifocal or progressive lenses (progressives from as low as $35.95). We need a valid prescription issued within the last 24 months; expired prescriptions are not accepted. Lens indexes go up to 1.74 for stronger prescriptions. If we make the lenses wrong, we remake or refund at our cost with a prepaid label. If the error is on your side (wrong prescription given, expired Rx or wrong measurement), you can request an exchange within 30 days of receipt — you pay return shipping and any price difference.
Both are available, and the choice comes down to weight versus look. Full-rim acetate (15 of the 20 oval styles — the Padulla, Avenker and Ovalen series plus part of Aven) is handcrafted from premium acetate with a rim all the way around the lens. The thicker rim conceals the edge of the lens, which looks cleaner if your prescription is strong, and the material feels warm and substantial on the face. Rimless metal (the 5 Bonterey styles, in gold and other metal finishes) is the opposite end: ultra-light at around 18 g per pair with a minimalist, barely-there look — a good pick if the lightest possible frame or an understated Italian-design aesthetic is what you want. All Carfia frames are designed in Italy and CE & UK CA certified.
Every Carfia pair includes anti-scratch coating free. From the lens picker you can also add anti-reflective (AR) coating, water-repellent coating, UV-protective coating, blue-light filtering, photochromic / Transitions™ light-adjusting lenses, polarized lenses (+$50) and colour or mirrored tints. Two things worth knowing before you build your pair: (1) colour tints and mirrored tints cannot be combined with polarized or photochromic lenses; (2) gradient tint is only available on frames with a lens height above 36 mm — Carfia's oval lenses are 33–35.6 mm tall, so gradient tint is not offered on this collection.
Yes, your PD is required for prescription orders. PD is the distance in millimetres between the centres of your pupils, written two ways: binocular PD as one number (for example 63) or dual PD as two numbers (for example 31/30 — right eye first). Most adult binocular PD falls between 52 and 75 mm, with men averaging about 64 mm and women about 62 mm. To measure it yourself: stand 8–10 inches from a mirror, look straight ahead, hold a millimetre ruler against your brow and line the zero up with the centre of one pupil, then without moving your head read the scale at the other pupil. Repeat a few times for accuracy. When ordering: if your prescription says "63/60", enter 63 (far PD) for distance glasses and 60 (near PD) for readers; if it shows a dual PD like 32/31, tick the Dual PD box and enter each eye separately.
It depends on where you are. Orders processed here will take 5-7 business days to arrive. Overseas deliveries can take anywhere from 7-16 days. Delivery details will be provided in your confirmation email.
